  1. 15 years old and playing a professional sport (tennis) already? I played minor league ball and shoot, I was just learning the ropes of baseball at 15 years old. I can’t imagine someone that young playing professional sports at that age and also having to keep up with school and other social pressures that 15-16 year old teenagers normally experience.

  2. Derek: It was a wild card draw for the Rancho Santa Fe teenager, but a lucky one from her perspective.

We think 15 is young, but then see them even younger in the ranks of pro golf. Consider also the early and pre-teen Olympic competitors in gymnastics and ice skating.

From our perspectives, they are probably all to young. The pressures for early success are very, very strong–and not only in the United States.

You could probably address this subject better, but it seems baseball, football, basketball, soccer and other sports demand more physical development before reaching the pro levels.

    Thanks for your thoughts!
