The Health Benefits of Living on a Mountain

The Health Benefits of Living on a Mountain

We once lived in the mountains at Big Bear Lake, CA. For 8 years, our family skied, mountain biked and huddled close to the fireplace in the cold winter months. Living on a mountain offers various benefits to our mental and physical health, helping us live our best lives. For more information on the health benefits of living on a mountain, read on to find out why you should consider this high-rising lifestyle.

Better Air Quality

One of the best parts of living in the mountains is the improved air quality and easier breathing. The air pressure in the mountains is lower, which makes the air thinner. This thin air will have fewer pollutants, making the air cleaner.

The thin air also supplies less oxygen, but it will benefit your body by encouraging the production of red blood cells. Your higher red blood cell count will carry more oxygen throughout the body, increase your muscles’ strength, and make breathing easier. I remember and knew some of the professional boxers who came up to the high elevation of Big Bear Lake to train at altitude, build up red blood cell count and create massive endurance when they went down to Las Vegas to fight.

Peace of Mind

We will often look to nature to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The health benefits of living on a mountain will also improve your mental health and give you peace of mind. The tranquility and natural isolation of the mountain will be your sanctuary and help you feel more at peace with yourself and the world around you.

On clear days when the sun is shining, you’ll receive more sunlight, giving you a boost of serotonin. Your house is your domain, and creating a unique living space that makes you happy is one of the benefits of a custom-built mountain home.

More Opportunities for Physical Activity

Physical activity is important for healthier living, and there are numerous opportunities for exercise when living on a mountain. The trails that ascend and descend the mountain are perfect for hiking, biking, and running. You may also have the opportunity to ski–both downhill and cross country. The improved air quality and enhanced red blood cell count will make cardio more beneficial to the lungs and help you strengthen your legs.

Try mountain climbing to strengthen your body and explore some areas of your mountain home. The time spent climbing and reaching the top of a cliff will feel great once you see the view from above. Lots of kids in Big Bear would hike to the snowy peaks and then ski down. And some of those kids would spend their free time ski racing on the local slopes. They were all in great shape!

Life on a mountain is an interesting lifestyle with great benefits. The health benefits of living on a mountain are numerous, and if you want a great lifestyle with an even better view, consider looking into a mountain home to give yourself the health and fun you deserve.
